Dealing with the aftermath of November 25 2006 means that I really need a break.

I've never even been able til now to post a journal entry about that day. Most who would be reading this already know anyhow. My mother, who was in the hospital for something fairly minor, had an unusual sort of stroke (cholesterol embolism) and died within a few hours. My son was by my side, but was still 17, so I had to really be the only person to make the hardest decision of my life - to make her DNR.

Idiots who were not there and did not see the condition she was actually in are still gossping maliciously. Yeah, like I WANTED her to die without anyone getting to say goodbye??? Doofuses, she was in a vegetative state. Nobody home any more. GONE.


My best friend was out of state and totally unreachable for 2 days following.

My "something or other" was going from job training in one state to actual work in another. Before he'd left I'd joked that the only circumstance under which I would ever call him (99% due to details of said job) would be if my mother or son dropped dead. He'd called the day before and ended up leaving a "happy Thanksgiving and here's what's going on" message. He nearly swallowed his teeth in shock first at my calling and then when I said WHY. As I recently said to his roommate, if he never does another nice thing for me he'll still have major and permanent gratitude points. Anyone who would talk to me in excruicating detail from the airport in the middle of the night while I'm standing over a deathbed - then call that night after a grueling day of travel (to be greeted with "yeah. gone. 40 min after you had to hang up.") - then call again a couple of days later to inquire about how I was holding up after dealing with Funeral Arrangements Hell - well. Good friend indeed.

Okay, time to finish packing and get stuff over to The Ride's house. We leave for war in ten hours!!!
